F.A.M.E. for January
January’s Fine Arts Mini Experience (FAME) was taught during the week of January 23rd –January 26th and featured the artist Andrew Wyeth’s “Chambered Nautilus”, and the composer Ferde Grofe’s “Sunrise” and “Cloudburst” – movements from his Grand Canyon Suite
This lesson focused on the use of LIGHT AND SHADOW and how it can affect color. The students learned about the artistic value of transparent, translucent and opaque objects and how Wyeth used light and shadow to create these values.
Students also learned about Grofe, a uniquely American composer. They listened to Cloudburst and Sunrise and imagined the scenes of the Grand Canyon that the composer was trying to portray. Their imaginations helped them to identify DYNAMICS as a musical element.
