Faux Food
The elective class learned about the fun, fanciful sculptures of the artist Cleas Oldenburg, including many large scale sculptures right in the Bay Area (Like the Giant Bow and Arrow on Embarcadero, and the Huge Safety Pin in Golden Gate Park).
Although Oldenberg's sculptures in San Francisco are not made to look like food, many more of his works around the world, DO portray food in a creative way. Also....in on a giant scale.

We decided to play with the idea of Food Sculptures, too. But on a smaller scale. And with a smaller budget. Much smaller.... All we used were rolls of heavy duty toilet paper, water, tempera paint, and few props brought in from home. The kids really got into it, and it was a completely fun projecte.
