F.A.M.E. for December
December’s Fine Arts Mini Experience (FAME) was taught during the week of November 30th – December 3rd and featured the Spanish artist Francisco Goya’s painting “Maja Clothed” and the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg’s composition, “Anitra’s Dance” from the play Peer Gynt.
Students learned about the popular Odalisque pose and dramatic texture used in Goya’s famous work, Maja Clothed. They saw examples of Goya’s compositions throughout his life. They heard about his early, colorful paintings of Spanish aristocrats, as well as his darker paintings, which were created after the artist went deaf. Both styles are remembered as being distinctly Goya.
The classes listened to one of Edvard Grieg’s loveliest pieces, “Anitra’s Dance” and were asked to indicate when the rhythm was either staccato and legato. While listening to the music, they were treated to the Norwegian folk tale of Peer Gynt. One other famous composition from this play was also shared with the students – “In the Hall of the Mountain King.” They really enjoyed watching the cartoon depiction of the well known musical score!
