Matisse Cutouts
Students learned about the life of Henri Matisse, and the period in his life when he was unable to leave his bed. During this time, Matisse, who had always been a painter, turned to cutting paper as a way to create art. This began his second phase of life, the time when he was "painting with scissors" as he called it. Students created dynamic, moving silhouettes on a colorful cut out background.
