FAME lesson I
Paul Klee's "Sinbad at Sea"
This month, we learned about Paul Klee, and his use of color. In this painting, the students noticed the artist's use of color contrast. They also marveled at his use of geometric shapes and patterns.
We followed up on Klee's artwork, by creating some sea creatures of our own. Students were asked to use watercolors, and to rely on pattern to create interest in the artwork. Younger students started with just a fish (a favorite subject of Klee's). The upper grades were given more creative freedom, and they came up with their own ideas of what Paul Klee might depict.
