JANUARY FAME
This month’s Fine Arts Mini Experience (FAME) was taught during the week of January 23rd - 27th. This patriotic lesson discussed how American artist, Gilbert Stuart used light and shadow to give the appearance of depth to a portrait. Students learned about the artist’s life, and about his experience meeting with and painting George Washington.
Just in time for President’s day, we discussed George Washington’s life and legacy. Students heard about the work of the first American president, how and where he lived, and just why he looked so grumpy in all of his portraits… (ask your kid!)
This month’s musical lyrics were known to all, as we learned about “The Star Spangled Banner”, written by Francis Scott Key. The history of the famous Fort McHenry Flag was taught, and students discovered the story about why our national anthem was written. We sang (or read) the words together, and then listened to several variations of the song. The final version was selected to teach the element of Harmony.
