Basketweaving
The last few weeks between Thanksgiving and Winter Break are crazy for our elective classes. We don't really have that many days, and so this year, I decided to teach something that could be made for a present, while at the same time, was easy to pick up and put down over the final crazy weeks of the year. Basket weaving was the answer!
The kids LOVED learning how to make a basket out of reeds. They learned the technique for creating spokes from the base, they wove softened reeds around the spokes, and if they were feeling adventurous, they were invited to add beads, yarn, handles, whatever they thought of. Seeing the end results was so much fun.
I hope that at least a few of the parents of elective kids gets to open up a beautifully hand woven basket from their child this holiday season....
