Birch trees in Winter. A study in light and shadow.
Students learned about the unique nature of a Birch Tree. Then they set about making a scene with several birch trees. They learned about two watercolor techniques -- wet on wet and salt sprinkling. Both of these were used for the snowy sky. When painting the Birch trees, they were instructed to take note of the shadows and the way a shadow would be cast coming from the tree. Students enjoyed their outcomes on this project. I was very impressed!
