Woman with Dog
Mary Cassatt
September’s Fine Arts Mini Experience (FAME) was taught during the week of September 24th -27th and featured the American artist Mary Cassatt’s “Woman with Dog”, and the French composer Claude Debussy’s music “The Snow is Dancing”.
Students compared the characteristics and imagery of Impressionist art and music as they studied the lives of both of our featured artists. The use of the element of Color , and the concept of primary and secondary colors, along with warm and cool colors, were discussed while viewing Cassatt’s art.
The elements of music Composition were reviewed, and students listened to our musical selection while noticing the careful, yet completely original way Debussy created an impression of a scene in nature.
Both Debussy and Cassatt have a special connection with children, and we learned about this as well, in this month’s FAME lesson.
