Contour
Elective students were challenged to look at objects, and concentrate on the outer line. (The contour) The class worked on blind contour (not looking at the paper when drawing, only looking at the object), and then after being being frustrated by that for a while, they moved on to modified contour, and created quite a few lovely line drawings.
Rhythm in Contour
After the original contour drawings were complete, students were asked to select the tool or kitchen object that they had most enjoyed drawing in contour. They were then asked to draw that selection over and over to create rhythm. The results were quite good.
Alphabet Hands
Once the students felt comfortable with contour, we moved on to drawing our hands. Each student in the class was assigned three sign language alphabet signs to create. Between everyone, the entire 26 letters were drawn.
