Day of the Dead -- Los Dias de los Muertos
Our Art Appreciation Class learned about the Mexican tradition of celebrating Day of the Dead on the first of November. There are many traditions associated with the holiday, but the sentiment which runs through all of them, is a celebration of ones ancestors. There are parades, and altars, and picnics in the cemetery. Sugar skulls are eaten, and marigolds are used to decorate homes. The one tradition that our classes chose to recreate was the making of calacas -- skeletons to honor the dead.
