Monet's Water Lilies

Students learned about light, shadow, color, texture and reflection in the works of Claude Monet. Using what they discovered about Monet's depiction of water, they attempted to create their own watery reflections. First they laid down the water in oil pastels, and then they painted a scene above that. While the paint was still wet, they folded the artwork in half, creating a "reflection" of the picture in the water below. This art technique, they learned, is called a Monoprint.
