F.A.M.E. for April/May
Our final Fine Arts Mini Experience (FAME) of the year was taught during the week of April 28- May 2nd and featured the artist Pablo Picasso’s “Portrait of a Woman” , and the composer Manuel de Falla’s singing ballet “El Amor, Brujo” with an emphasis on “The Ritual Fire Dance”.
The color and fire of Spain was brought to life by these two Spanish artists. Long-lived Picasso was the originator of a new way of looking at the world and of looking at art composition. He developed cubism – an art form that dealt with the reduction of elements to their simplest forms while at the same time showing multiple views of the same object.
Intense, but shy, Manuel de Falla honored his native Spain by writing new music that went beyond folk tunes to evoke imaginative images of his country. The wild strains and musical dynamics of the “Ritual Fire Dance” were part of a singing ballet. Students enjoyed moving and acting in a FAME drama based on the ballet’s story line.
