Rene Magritte Surrealism
the false mirror
Students learned about the surrealist artwork of Rene Magritte. The Belgian artist loved to paint scenes that defied explanation. Most people recognize Magritte's artwork as men in bowler hats. Sometimes with a floating apple in front of the face. Magritte was also known for his cloudy skies. In "The False Mirror" Magritte placed his cloudy skies within the framework of an open eye. This is what the students recreated with paint, chalk pastel and colored pencils.
