Crosshatching and Stippling
Students were asked to create a drawing that included two lines that went across the page, three lines the went from on edge to the other edge, and a circle. Once those lines were laid down, they were given black pens and told to crosshatch to show areas of light and dark values, with grays in between. When the crosshatching was completed, they were told to do the same sort of image, but using stippling to create the black, white and gray values. The effect is a bit otherworldly. I like it!
