"George Washington" by Gilbert Stuart
We studied Gilbert Stuart's portrait of George Washington for our February lesson. Students learned a few stories about our Nation's beginning and also learned about the art element of light and shadow. Because we studied this art right around presidents day, the art classes followed up with a very patriotic collage. Students combined the well known profile of George Washington along with the colors of our flag and the words of the star spangled banner. They could combine these elements with their own ideas and words about America to create a wonderful, red white and blue design.
The 1st and 2nd graders were not able to participate in this project because they had the day off on our art class day....
