Cezanne Still Lifes
One of the many wonderful things about living in the Bay Area, is that there are a wide array of cultural opportunities to experience. This month, at the DeYoung Museum, there has been an exhibit called "Impressionism and Beyond -- Cezanne, Van Gogh and Gauguin". It was a World class exhibit, with phenomenal works coming from the Musee D'Orsay in Paris, many of which were instantly recognizable. The fifth and sixth grade classes were lucky enough to see the exhibit, and as their art teacher, I was able to accompany them.
I order to get ready for the show, I had all of my 4-8th grade students study Cezanne, and learn more about his art. We then sat down to create a still life drawing using fruits in the same way Cezanne did. The kids produced some really terrific drawings. Here are just a few of the Sunol Masterpieces.
