Edgar Degas -- Ballet School
October’s Fine Arts Mini Experience (FAME) was taught during the week of October 24- October 27th and featured the artist Edgar Degas’ “Ballet School”, and the composer Peter Tchaikovsky’s music “Waltz of the Flowers” from the Nutcracker Suite.
This lesson focused on the wonder of the art form, ballet. Its history and language were discussed. All of the students practiced assuming the five ballet positions!
Classes observed how an artist uses line in a painting as Impressionist Degas did. And they will follow up on this concept in their weekly art classes coming up in November.
Students also learned about the life of Russian composer Tchaikovsky and enjoyed a version of the story that is the basis for the Nutcracker Suite. Tchaikovsky’s life and music were discussed and students did well in counting out the rhythm from his piece, Waltz of the Flowers.
