Paper Quilling translated into Mendhi designs
Students were shown different patterns and designs that could be made from rolled paper. They were modeled spirals, and petals and tear shaped paper rolls and other shapes. They used recycled magazines cut into thin strips and wrapped them around small tubes. From this they were able to fashion scrollwork, or Paper quilling. (originally a Renaissance craft).
But we modernized the art form by looking at Mehndi henna tattoos, and creating designs that followed that look. The final result was really pretty cool. The students and I agreed that the project took ALOT of patience. Almost too much for the kids to deal with. (Especially with all of the year end excitement.....)
