December’s Fine Arts Mini Experience (FAME) was taught during the week of December 5th – December 9th and featured the artist Raoul Dufy’s “Mediterranean Scene”, and the composer Frederic Chopin’s “Nocturne in E-Flat.”
This lesson focused on the use of color to create a mood. The students learned about primary and secondary colors on the color wheel And learned how Dufy made his own distinct style using color and curling black lines. The students will follow up this lesson by creating their own color creations in art class in the weeks to come.
Students also learned about Chopin, the great Romantic pianist from the 1800’s. Known as the “Poet of the Piano”, he was a skilled writer of compositions that employed complicated harmonies. We listened to one of these pieces entitled “Nocturne”. The students also got a chance to listen to one of Chopin’s rousing Polish marching songs.
