Wax Resist -- Crayon and watercolor Batiks on paper
Students learned about the art of Batik in Indonesia and Asia. They were shown different cotton materials which had been patterned with a wax resist method. Using stained glass window designs, or just designs that they created themselves, the class created beautiful Wax drawings. They then crinkled them rpeatedly to break up the crayon (this created what is called a "crackle" effect) and then painted over the designs with black watercolor. The results were surprising.
